Description:

The Dispatch Manager will oversee the Dispatching Staff and will coordinate and schedule drivers for pick-up and delivery in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the Dispatch department maintains effective daily communication with drivers, including those run by subcontractors; to continually monitor service making proactive adjustments to maximize on time performance and productivity; demonstrate effective use of scheduling software, two-way radio communication, telephone, and data analysis skills.

Requirements:

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Trains dispatching staff.
  • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of administrative and professional departmental staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline of employees as needed and in accordance with policy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Create daily schedules consisting of driver’s trips.
  • Assign drivers for pick-up and delivery; selects most efficient routes for each driver.
  • Oversees equipment availability for drivers.
  • Anticipates weather complications along routes and at the drivers’ destinations; communicates delays and route changes as necessary.
  • Forecasts long-range transportation needs and modifies schedule based on current data and trends.
  • Leads plan development for transportation-related projects. Assigns qualified staff to execute selected parts of each project.
  • Review and ensure the accuracy of Dispatcher’s daily status reports.
  • Communicate with travel offices to obtain correct documentation and trip reports.
  • Communicate with Management as needed to maximize efficiency and resolve issues.
  • Monitors drivers’ working hours to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Receives and dispatches response and emergency support when needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Excellent managerial skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to prepare and assign routes.
  • Basic understanding of geographical area and mapping programs to facilitate efficient routing.
  • Proficient with or able to quickly learn dispatch and recordkeeping systems.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and under pressure.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, or related field preferred.
  • At least five years of related experience and execution of similar duties in Transportation, Logistics, Dispatching, Scheduling required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Salary:

$45,000 yr
