Basic Purpose
The Scrum Master works closely with the Product Owner to lead the delivery of products, capabilities, and features by facilitating team events and processes, managing continuous flow, and removing impediments, and fostering a high-performing team environment. The Scrum Master has broad latitude for independent judgment and coaches their team on Lean, Agile, and Scrum practices.
Responsibilities
- Exhibit a Lean-Agile leader mindset; help the team embrace Lean-Agile and SAFe core values, adopt and apply SAFe principles and implement SAFe practices
- Support the team rules of Scrum, eliminate impediments, and lead the team in efforts for relentless improvement and heightened efficiency
- Own escalated impediments and raise issues to leadership if they cannot be resolved in a timely manner
- Ensure the product and technology delivery roadmap support the product strategy
- Manage dependencies across product development teams, platform teams, and Agile Release Trains
- Facilitate team progress toward Program Increment (PI) Objectives and Iteration Goals
- Ensure goals, scope, and product backlog items are understood and can be fulfilled by team members
- Collaborate with Product Management, Scrum Masters, Architects, product/platform teams to identify and clarify scope of issues and problems in terms of business/systems requirements and processes
- Support team efforts to continuously improve communications and relationships with other delivery teams; represent the team in the Scrum of Scrums (SoS), helping the team remain aware of engagement opportunities and program effectiveness
- Gather and report performance information and metrics (e.g., sprint burndown, team velocity, risks, etc.)
- Challenge the old norms of development to improve performance in the areas of quality, predictability, flow, and velocity
- Support software development teams in applying the Scrum framework and DevSecOps practices
- Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, lines of business, product and platform teams, and management
- Support and contribute to the Agile Communities of Practice
- Assist with developing and delivering training and workshops
- Become an influential leader within the team and promote agility across Navy Federal
- Help resolve team conflicts as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Design and Development or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Certification in SAFe Scrum Master and/or SAFe Release Train Engineer or other advanced agile certification
- Significant experience leading Agile teams as a Scrum Master, Product Owner, Release Train Engineer, or Development/Delivery Lead
- Experience successfully coaching and transitioning teams, programs, portfolios through an agile transformation
- Experience leading and coaching successful product delivery teams
- Experience in product development, software development, system engineering, and operations management
- Working knowledge of cloud platform technologies (e.g., Azure, AWS)
- Working knowledge of API development and integration
- Experience in Continuous Integration & Delivery and integrating into agile delivery practice
- Experience in developing reporting metrics and dashboards that illustrate the flow of value
- Successful track record implementing agile methodologies and frameworks
- Ability to create product release plans and roadmaps
- Advanced skill in influencing, negotiating, and persuading to reach positive outcomes
- Advanced skill in motivating and uplifting team members using teaching/mentoring skills
- Advanced skill building effective relationships through rapport, trust, diplomacy, and tact
- Advanced problem solving, collaboration, critical thinking, and team building skills
- Advanced verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
- Advanced spreadsheet, presentation, diagramming, and database skills
- Advanced reporting, analytics, business intelligence skills
- Advanced research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Advanced skill delivering presentations to virtual and hybrid audiences
- Experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, vendors
- Experience in leading, guiding and coaching professional staff
- Effective skill in building strategic and execution focused plans and alliances with business and technology partners
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Design and Development or related field
- Certification in SAFe Product Owner / Product Manager or SAFe Lean Portfolio Management
- Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal systems, business functions, philosophy, operations, and organizational objectives
- Advanced knowledge of Banking and Financial Services systems and applications; ideally related to Core Banking and Payments
- Advanced knowledge of Banking and Financial Services industry standards, regulations, concepts, business processes, terminology
- Experience working with Azure DevOps

Navy Federal is now hybrid! Our standard enterprise requirement for a hybrid schedule is to report on-site 4-16 days each month. The number of days reporting on-site will ultimately be determined by the employee's leadership and business unit needs. You will learn more throughout the hiring and on boarding process.
Salary Range: $85,500 - $146,300 annually
Navy Federal Credit Union assesses market data to establish salary ranges that enable us to remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range, based on your experience, location and market position.
