Job Description

We are hiring a service manager to lead the service team at our new restaurant, Ajja- opening in a few weeks. The right candidate will be passionate about hospitality, detail-oriented, with at least two years experience at a senior server/ mid-management level. They will work closely with the general manager to ensure daily operations go smoothly, and guest satisfaction is excellent at all times.

Ajja is the new restaurant from husband and wife team Cheetie Kumar and Paul Siler. Kumar is a two-time James Beard finalist for Best Chef in the Southeast, and previously owned Garland in downtown Raleigh with Siler, along with music venue Kings and cocktail bar Neptunes.

This new project, whose name means “come over”, will bring the cuisine of the East Mediterranean and South-West Asia to Raleigh’s Five Points neighborhood. Cheetie’s cooking focuses on bold but balanced flavors, and celebrates the diverse foodways and cultures of that region of the world - while closely working with North Carolina’s growers and farmers.

We are developing an exciting beverage menu, focused on wines from underrepresented regions and producers, and thoughtful cocktails that take from the Eastern Mediterranean pantry.

Applicants must be available evenings and weekends – schedule flexibility will be valued as we grow Ajja and expand our opening hours. This is a salaried position between $44-48k, depending on experience. A Healthcare stipend, free telehealth services (including mental health), paid time off and sick leave that accrues annually is available after 90 days of employment. We provide daily staff meals.

Responsibilities:

• Cultivate Ajja’s mission and values by personal example and through staff engagement
• Be an efficient, accurate point of communication between guests, service team, kitchen and upper management
• Work alongside management team to recruit, retain and train service team
• Work alongside management team to deliver ongoing food, beverage and service education, ensuring all team members reach their full potential
• Ensure guest satisfaction, food quality and service delivery at all times by being an active presence in the dining room
• Oversee reservation system, optimizing seating times and availability for walk ins, and working closely with hosts to ensure smooth flow of service
• Monitor and maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization, and safety
• Handle customer complaints and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner
• Perform opening and closing duties as needed, including cash handling and daily record keeping

Requirements:

• Minimum of two years experience in senior service role, with leadership experience preferred
• Impeccable organization and time-management skills
• Be a great problem solver, with ability to think on your feet
• Be an effective and to-the-point communicator
• Thorough knowledge of main beverage categories; proficient knowledge of wine preferred
• Proficient with Google Suite including Google Drive and Google Sheets
• Experience with Toast POS and Resy preferred
• A reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license
• ·Be able to be on your feet for 8-9 hours, reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 40 pounds.
