Are you interested in helping make communication accessible for all? If so, this might be the position for you! The DPI is currently seeking applicants for a Sign Language Interpreter position with the Human Resources Services Team in the Office of the State Superintendent. Responsibilities will focus on providing virtual sign language interpreting services for staff at the DPI central office and will also include serving as an accessibility specialist in creating resources, training materials and communication.
This position has the option to work 100% remote with a requirement that the employee is expected to have access to secure high speed internet. The position is headquartered at 125 S. Webster Street in Madison, WI, and employees are required to report there on their first day of employment. In addition, the employee may need to report to their headquarter location as operational needs require. Mileage reimbursement for traveling to the employee’s headquarters is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.

Under the general direction of the HR Director, this position will support the DPI by providing interpreting services for the Human Resources Team for confidential matters, Office of the State Superintendent (OSS) DPI meetings, committees, and workgroups such as the Employee Advisory Committee (EAC), the State Superintendent Affirmative Action Advisory Committee (SSAAAC) and the Equity and Inclusion Leadership Committee (EILC). Responsibilities also include serving as an accessibility specialist in creating resources, training and communication to DPI staff.
Depending on qualifications, the salary will be between $25.32 – $41.78 per hour ($52665 - $86902 per year) in accordance with the provisions of the current Compensation Plan. This position is in pay schedule 07, range 03. A one-year probationary period will be required.
This position offers excellent benefits. The State of Wisconsin is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
