Disney Cruise Line
- The Manager-Entertainment Technical Design & Delivery provides direction, leadership, and oversight to a variety of multi field specialists in the areas of theatrical design and technical direction. Subject areas include: audio, lighting, video/broadcast, special effects/pyrotechnics, technical direction, CAD and prop/puppet development. These teams provide support to capital projects (including fleet expansion), annual special events and other new entertainment offerings for Disney Cruise Line and DSE. Projects include: live theatricals, ship-wide entertainment, holiday/special events, facility infrastructure design/development/installation, and operational sustainment.
- Reporting to the Vice President of Disney Live Entertainment (subject to change).
- Act as primary partner to the Producers and Creative Directors on creative and technical development, sustainment, implementation, project staffing and long-term strategic planning
- Lead the theatrical design and technical delivery functions and partner with the following areas: Production, Creative/Artistic, Entertainment Operations, Marine and Technical Operations, Walt Disney Imagineering, and various leaders throughout Disney Cruise Line and Disney Live Entertainment
- Partner with the Disney Live Entertainment Manager of Technical Delivery and find ways to align to global processes where applicable and share/apply standard methodologies from other Disney Live Entertainment sites, both domestic and international
- The role will focus on creative and technical development and implementation, sustainment, project staffing and long-term strategic planning
- Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key clients and partners throughout the company, such as Design & Engineering and Safety
- Champions the design assurance and hazard analysis process at Disney Cruise Line and partners with appropriate teams
- Mentor, coach, develop, and leading performance of 10+ direct reports and 10+ indirect reports
- Responsibilities also include developing capital budgets as well as oversight of project budgets, operating expense, and sustainment projects
- Responsible for the promotion of safe working environments to ensure all direct reports, vendors, contractors, and project teams understand the safety guidelines and are in compliance
- This role will be the first point of contact for all legal and regulatory issues and changes related to design and build
- Responsible for vendor and sub-contractor relationships and oversight with a continual eye on bringing the best new ideas, technology, and people onto the team
- Serves as the point of contact for all technical feasibility on new entertainment development projects. Initial scope creation, rough order of magnitude budgeting and high-level schedule creation are necessary for the purpose of ensuring feasibility of work. Once the work is turned on, the leader will have oversight to all projects managed by the teams involved
- Follows set policies and procedures as well as all maritime and Ship rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Partner with Entertainment Technical Shoreside Leadership, Disney Cruise Line Safety partners and the Standards and Sustainment team to ensure SMS and LOG documentation is up to date and in accordance with current safety and regulatory practices.
- SMS – Partner with Shipboard and Shoreside leadership in the general safety management responsibilities of the Entertainment Technical department.
- Champion continuous process improvement
- 10+ years’ demonstrated ability leading entertainment show production, live event production and technical fields
- 10+ years demonstrated ability in one or more of the following industries: live theatricals, cruise line, theme park and/or large-scale special events/spectaculars
- 5+ years’ project management experience
- Core knowledge and/or subject matter expertise with theatrical technologies, i.e., Technical Direction, Lighting, Special Effects, Pyrotechnics, Audio, Projection, Show Systems, Costuming, Set Design and Construction
- Strong business knowledge of budgets and schedules
- Available and willing to work weekends, holidays and third shift, as needed
- Willingness to travel extensively on various domestic and international assignments as needed for Disney Cruise Line and related projects.
- 10+ years’ professional experience in a technical direction and/or theatrical design discipline(s)
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programs, spreadsheet and presentation software
- Fluency in any other language is a plus (German, Spanish, French, Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater or equivalent with focus on technical design, construction, and production.
- Proven knowledge and proficiency in some or all the following engineering disciplines:Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Safety
