Performs difficult skilled maintenance or construction work and does related work as required. Repairs, replaces, and installs water and sewer pipes, fire hydrants, and other similar infrastructure. Makes water connections, sewer connections, repair and raise manholes. Rods and flushes sewer lines, assists on CCTV van and performs assigned landscaping assignments.
Duties Include: Installing and repairing water and sewer lines, maintaining and clearing of right-of-ways; operating various work vehicles and equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, forklifts, tampers, pipe saws, chainsaws, compaction equipment, and asphalt roller; assisting with hydrant and valve maintenance, performing routine carpentry and painting, assisting with pump station repairs and maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Basic knowledge of standard office practices and equipment, including GIS system, and business English, spelling and arithmetic. Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently and maintain effective working relationships. Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification in NIMMS training, 16-Hour Asbestos Operation and Maintenance, Intermediate Work Zone Safety, VDOT Flagging, and Confined Space.
Requires ability to train in use of construction equipment in the installation and repair of water/wastewater utility systems. Must be able to wear a respirator in certain applications and must possess, or acquire within 6 months, a CDL, Class A. No experience required; we will train. High school diploma/GED preferred, but not required. Stand-by, emergency response duty and overtime required.
Starting Salary Range $35,032 – $42,038
