The department is seeking a Revenue Auditor 3, 4, or 5, position to serve as an individual income tax technical specialist in the Income, Sales, and Excise Tax Division. These experienced technical positions are responsible for researching, investigating, analyzing, conducting studies, and responding to complex Wisconsin income tax issues. These positions provide guidance to department management and personnel, legislative agencies, economists, tax software companies, tax practitioners, and attorneys on all matters relating to income taxes. Tasks and duties include annually updating and revising Wisconsin tax forms, instructions, publications, common questions, and fact sheets; developing issue papers and preparing oral reports on tax policy issues; respond to questions from tax practitioners, other agencies, taxpayers, and internal staff; analyzing and drafting responses to legislative bills; and developing legislative proposals and administrative rules.
Work between the Revenue Auditor 3, 4, and 5 levels is differentiated by complexity and independence of work assignments. Work is performed under general supervision. Employees may progress through the Revenue Auditor classification; the starting position offered is based on the experience and qualifications of the applicant.

Starting salary will be between $25.32 and $41.78 per hour for Revenue Auditor 3 (07-03), $29.63 and $46.49 for Revenue Auditor 4 (07-02), and $29.63 and $48.87 for Revenue Auditor 5 (07-02), depending on experience and qualifications, plus benefits. The position may require up to a 24-month probationary period.
The department will conduct a background check, fingerprint check and tax compliance check prior to making an offer to hire. Interview results may be reused in accordance with the State of WI interview reuse policy.
