This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Graphic Design Assistant student positions for University Housing & Dining Services at Oregon State University.
This position typically works about 10-15 hours per week and no more than 20 hours per week. Period of employment is approximately June 2023-June 2024, with the possibility of continued work through the summer and into the next academic year. There is also a possibility to begin employment in September 2023.
University Housing & Dining Services Graphic Design Assistants create a variety of print and digital work, including signage, photography and promotional material in support of highlighting the 16 residence halls, more than 25 dining locations, student leadership, and events led by the department.
Graphic Design Assistants are vital to the UHDS Marketing, Outreach and Communications (MOC) unit. They work in collaboration with a Digital Media Assistant, Marketing and Communications Managers, the Assistant Director and Director of Marketing. Graphic Design Assistants must be able to manage multiple projects, meet tight deadlines and work creatively within OSU’s brand guidelines.
Starting wage is $16.75/hr.
Position Duties
To meet the objectives of the Marketing, Outreach and Communications unit, the responsibilities and duties of the graphic design assistant position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Graphic Design and Photography
- Create a variety of promotional materials for print, social media, video/motion graphics, digital displays, etc., using Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, After Effects, Premiere).
- Create design content that effectively communicates with diverse stakeholders and audiences across the OSU community.
Digital Screen Updates
- Assist in posting and managing content on UHDS digital display screens (located in dining centers and residence halls).
Team Collaboration
- Participate in marketing meetings and brainstorm sessions.
- Research and work with vendors to obtain price quotes and order giveaway items.
- Attend weekly student staff meeting.
- Assist with managing projects and files and archive final files appropriately.
- Follow projects from initiation to concept to execution/completion.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
- International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
To meet the objectives of the Marketing, Outreach and Communications unit, the qualifications of the graphic design assistant position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Strong interest and/or past experience working with graphic design, creating fliers, posters and/or multi-page documents.
- Basic photography skills and experience.
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software with working proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment while also working independently with a high level of self-direction.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
- Proficiency in the following software programs: Lightroom, Acrobat Pro, After Effects, Premiere.
- Video and social media marketing skills.
- Experience living in an on-campus environment.
- Enrolled in graphic design, new media communications or related degree area of study.
- Bilingual skills, preferably Spanish language speaker.
- Commitment to diversity and learning about identities other than your own.
- Experience working within a brand system.
