Job Description

Minimum starting $21.00 plus, per hour, depending on qualifications.


The Levy Company is currently hiring an entry-level Fleet Mechanic at The Levy Company headquarters in Selma, TX to perform preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment and assist mechanics in repairing vehicle and equipment under supervision of a mechanic or the Fleet Services manager.


Essential Functions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Test, clean, and adjust repaired or replaced parts and assemblies to ensure they are in proper working order.
  • Upon completion of any repair or maintenance, perform a comprehensive inspection of the vehicle to ensure quality of work.
  • Assist mechanics in identifying maintenance and repair needs for vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilize code and reference books, and computer diagnostic equipment to assist mechanics in diagnosing and repairing vehicles and equipment.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment in performing maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Perform minor repairs under the guidance of a mechanic or Fleet Services manager.
  • Properly document work performed using the fleet information system.

Required Qualifications:

  • One or more years of work experience performing preventive maintenance on diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions and differentials, industrial trucks, light duty trucks, automobiles, and / or heavy highway equipment.
  • Valid Texas driver license.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must provide own tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASE or equivalent certification.
  • Trade school or military mechanic training.
  • 608/609 certification (A/C system).
  • DOT brake certification.
  • Class A or B CDL.

Required Competencies:

  • Advanced understanding of preventive maintenance for vehicles and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems for diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions and differentials, vehicles, and construction equipment.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to learn and use Windows-based computer applications.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.


Working Environment:

Work is performed primarily in shop environments with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and in temperature extremes.


Equipment:

Position utilizes a pool vehicle and operates various vehicles and equipment.


Physical Demands:

  • Frequent operation of equipment with vibrating and moving parts.
  • Frequent and repeated hand and arm movement to manipulate tools, handles, and levers.
  • Frequent and repeated lifting from ground to various heights up to 50 pounds individually, and team lifting heavier items.
  • Frequent and repeated exerting of force up to 100 pounds.
  • Constant standing / walking for up to eight (8) hours per day.
  • Frequent walking on uneven and / or unpaved terrain.
  • Frequent climbing steps, ladders, and in/out/onto vehicles.
  • Frequent and repeated bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.
  • Visual acuity to drive, distinguish electrical wire colors, perform manual detailed work, and to read printed and electronic documents.
  • Manual dexterity to frequently manipulate, handle, and feel.
  • Hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common construction and road environment noises.
  • Frequent operation of a motor vehicle, and occasionally for extended periods of time up to eight (8) hours per day, driving to and between work locations.
  • Constant use of personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary for working safely.
