Purpose of Job:

To provide supplemental instructional support in the development of each student’s Science skills as the foundation for success in high school courses while collaborating with the educational staff contributing to successful student achievement.

Student Engagement

Classroom Engagement

  • Maintain clear classroom attendance expectations for students.

  • Maintain expected student communication and document attendance utilizing identified GOAL systems.


Academic Intervention

  • Utilize daily and weekly student engagement and participation data to provide interventions to students who are not actively engaged in class.

  • Provide appropriate and timely academic intervention to meet individual student needs, and document appropriately in GOAL's MTSS system.

  • Attend professional development opportunities and instructional coaching that promote improved instructional strategies and support researched-based resource material needed to successfully maintain professional growth.


Active Student and Parent Communication

  • Communicate regularly with students (daily) and parents (monthly) to keep the student progressing toward academic success, including, but not limited to, providing progress reports, class expectations, student participation rates and when needed, arrange/support student/parent teacher conferences.

  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding and respect for the communities in which they identify.


Teaching / Tutoring

Quality Courses and Instruction

  • Utilize GOAL established guidelines for quality course structure and instructional practices.

  • Provide high-quality virtual (live and recorded) instruction to individual students and small groups.

  • Create an online classroom environment and adhere to the research-based program of study that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.

  • Apply instructional strategies to meet the needs of individual students through differentiation to appropriately serve their learning plans, including, but not limited to, IEPs, ELPs, ALPs, and 504s.

  • Support the implementation of school platforms, assessment tools, and data management systems.

  • Maintain strong organizational skills.


RTI – Response to Intervention

  • Utilize data to provide intervention instruction to students and to bring their skills to grade-level.

  • Utilize identified research-based interventions focused specifically on individual student needs.

  • Maintain data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress.


Grading and Gradebooks

  • Maintain complete and accurate grading and gradebooks in the GOAL LMS (Schoology).

  • Ensure weekly gradebook updates by the close of business each Friday.


Gladiator POD

Advocacy

  • Facilitate and support your POD team to lead to a positive working environment for fellow staff and student groups.

  • Collaborate with your assigned POD to identify the needs of your students.

  • Set and maintain learning goals and targets to develop best practices for continuous academic growth of students.


Communication

  • Build connections with staff, students, and parents to keep the student progressing toward academic success, working as a united team to set goals, provide support and overcome barriers to academic progress. This will include, but is not limited to, attending family support meetings, connecting through group messaging and meetings, and providing updates on student academic performance.


Extra-Curricular

  • Possess and share a general knowledge of GOAL Academy's extra-curricular activities and student opportunities.


Teamwork

  • Participate in daily POD huddles to establish clear lines of communication and define daily responsibilities with fellow POD teammates for the success of assigned students.


Attendance

  • Maintain daily student communication and document attendance utilizing identified GOAL systems.


Student Learning

Assess and Monitor Growth

  • Champion GOAL's culture of assessment by ensuring student participation and proctoring throughout the year.

  • Utilize pre/post assessment data to monitor and guide academic growth.

  • Identify and set student growth targets and/or needed interventions.

  • Analyze existing student achievement data and administer progress monitoring instruments as needed to aid in progress monitoring of intervention students.


Statewide Content Teams

  • Participate in regular meetings to collaborate with team members to analyze data surrounding student performance and passer ratings.

  • Work with the team to develop strategies to improve student performance in core classes and curriculum.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Science required.

  • OR Highly Qualified as a Colorado Secondary Educator in Science.

  • OR Valid Colorado Secondary Teaching License with Science endorsement preferred.

Experience:

  • Three to five years of experience working in a school or school system preferred.

  • At least two years of experience working in a high school with at risk youth preferred.

  • History of advanced knowledge of differentiated instruction, knowledge of different learning styles and challenges, and the ability to apply them to intervention students in a blended learning environment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in a teaching/tutoring capacity.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of instructional strategies and the role of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the design and implementation of academic interventions preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge and/or experience of instruction, testing, data analysis, and curriculum development.
