Associate Railroad Signal Specialist I: $77,921 - $98,128 (new hire rate: $67,756)
Associate Railroad Signal Specialist II: $85,845 - $109,408 (new hire rate: $74,649
Associate Railroad Signal Specialist III: $103,630 - $122,168 (new hire rate: $90,113)

Job Responsibilities

Knowledge and troubleshooting skills for processor-based system such as Communication Based Train Control (CBTC), Solid State Interlocking (SSI), and Programable Logic Controller (PLC). Familiar with Signal System circuits. Familiar with system integration and software diagnostic. Ability to manage maintenance contracts. Ability to develop scope of work and project profiles. Ability to generate technical reports including root cause of system failure.


Education/Experience


A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and eight years of full-time satisfactory experience in: railroad power-operated signal engineering work; or in signal maintenance, circuit designing, manufacturing, or installation supervision (general experience). At least two years of this experience must have included specialized experience in:
a. designing railroad signals of moderate difficulty; or
b. supervising and inspecting the installation of railroad signals; or
c. preparing plans and specifications for railroad signal equipment or systems;
or

2. A satisfactory combination of education and experience which is equivalent to “1” above. Education in electrical technology, electrical engineering or a related field above the high school level may be substituted for the general experience described under "1" above at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university for one year of experience up to the maximum of four years of experience. However, all candidates must have at least two years of the specialized experience described in "1 a, b, c" above.

To be assigned to Assignment Level II, the candidate must have at least one year of experience working in Assignment Level I or an additional year of the experience described under “1” above in the “Qualification Requirements.”

To be assigned to Assignment III, the candidate must have at least two years of experience working in Assignment Level I or II and/or two additional years of the experience described under “1” in the “Qualification Requirements” above.

Qualified Skills


Knowledge of Communications Based Train Control (CBTC), Solid State Interlocking (SSI), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC).

Ability to contribute to finding solutions and initiate innovative ideas to monitor and detect signal troubles.

Strong written and verbal communication.

Strong knowledge of Windows software and applications.

Knowledge of Micro station and Spotlight software to modify signal drawings.

Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

Selection Method

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.

All appointments, with the exception of Department of Subways employees on MaBSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
