Job Title: Staff Accountant

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for applying professional knowledge and skills in the preparation and presentation of financial and other decision-oriented information to assist management in the formulation of policies and in the planning.

Duties and responsibilities:

Daily/weekly responsibilities

  • Process expense reports submitted by employees (review expense reports submitted by employees for job and GL accuracy/company compliance)
  • Process A/R Cash postings (use cash receipts log to post customers’ payment to their accounts)
  • Balance Sheet analysis & reconciliations (review entries to balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy, maintain spreadsheets for account details)
  • Retrieve transaction information from vendor/bank websites (P-card, WEX, Enterprise, Donlen, Chase cash receipts, Harris/Chase/Bank of America bank statements)
  • Ad hoc accounting work as needed

Month end responsibilities

  • Complete bank reconciliations (Examine bank statements & reconcile with general ledger entries)
  • Run month-end reports (A/P & A/R aging reports, trial balance reports, verify reports correlate with one another)
  • Process Journal Entries (prepare/post journal entries from various sources)
  • Assist with preparation of monthly/quarterly reports (compile information from various sources to complete corporate reporting requirements)

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • BSc/BA in Finance or Accounting
  • 2-5 Years of experience in accounting or finance
  • Advanced Excel skills (Pivot tables, Macro’s, VLOOKUP, etc.)
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must possess strong analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to collaborate with others and foster a positive team environment

Working conditions

Office-based, in a temperature-controlled environment. Typical working hours for the AS are generally Monday – Friday during normal business hours.

Physical requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a project manager to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The Staff Accountant is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
