- Familiarity with Trimble surveying equipment.
- Possess a thorough understanding and knowledge of the methods of calculations employed in leveling, topographic surveys, mapping, and construction surveys.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints to identify layout or CAD file errors
- QC any work done through GPS/UTS Machine Control
- Proficient in all aspects of construction layout, reading and understanding blueprints, layout, existing surveys, earthwork computations, set, and maintaining horizontal and vertical control.
- Must have a reliable source of transportation.
- Ability to set up GPS base and total station.
- Knowledge of the latest Trimble software (SCS900, GCS900, Earthworks).
- General understanding of how all the survey equipment works.
- Must be capable of crouching, standing, and/or walking, or a combination of the three intermittently, on uneven, wet, or muddy surfaces, through underbrush, and exposed to the elements of the outdoors during any given season, for an extended period.
- Must be capable of lifting and/or carrying a load (typically a bag of stakes weighing approximately 25 lbs.) for an extended period.
- Should be able to conduct minor layouts with basic measurement devices (tape measure, site level, etc.) and a set of plans if necessary.
- Understanding of construction layout and construction sequence.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and meet the criteria to drive a Siema vehicle.
- Willing to occasionally work long hours, nights, weekends, and 50+ hour weeks, as necessary, during the “blow and go” periods that every construction company faces, which is typically in the summer
- Must be willing to do work other than survey to make a 40-hour week
- CAD knowledge is not required, but is encouraged, and, at a minimum, the surveyor shall possess a basic understanding of the data prep process (it helps from a QC and troubleshooting standpoint)
- Must train and assist operators with the proper machine control setup and methods
- Direct crew members on site layout and survey activities.
- Participate in a culture of talent development.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE

- Desired experience – 3-5 years of survey crew chief with civil construction experience.
- Flagger Certification
- Advanced Plan Reading
- Defensive Driving
- Traffic Control
- CAD Knowledge
