Job Description
The staff accountant for corporate fleet is an onsite, corporate level position that works closely with distribution center accounting staff and the Fleet Logistics department to track and analyze charges for the
company's fleet of tractors and trailers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Works under the supervision of the accounting manager for corporate accounting to review corporate charges for accuracy and create a detailed list of charges to the distribution centers consisting of depreciation, registration, permitting, lease expenses, etc.
- First line review of fleet lease invoices for accuracy and coding to general ledger accounts, works with internal departments and vendors to address discrepancies
- Analyzes and interprets complex accounting records, including general ledger and financial statement management, advanced account reconciliation, lease purchase analysis, financial audits, asset tracking; and assists in annual budget preparation, presentation, review and analysis
- Assists in preparing regular and ad hoc internal reports and schedules related to the company's fleet assets
- Completes other independent projects as assigned
- Supports the overall goals of the McLane Company Home Office Accounting Department
- Communicates with a wide variety of personnel throughout the organization
MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Have a bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounting or financial environment
- Strong organizational skills with an eye toward detail
- Advanced computer skills including Excel and a major ERP system; Oracle preferred
- Have strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Familiarity with lease accounting standards including ASC 842 a plus
- Progression toward CPA certification preferred
